SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE AND WIN

Each year approximately 400 students of the junior class at Middlebury College and approximately 300 students from other colleges and universities study abroad in more than 40 countries at more than 90 different programs and universities under the Middlebury College Study Abraod Program.

The Office of Digital Learning now challenges you to present your cultural, linguistic and academic integration in the form of photography, video and writing on your very own MiddCreate site. We’re looking for great photos, amazing videos and engaging and reflective pieces of writing that tell a story from your perspective.

Create your own site depicting your time abroad and use it as a place of reflection of each day’s events, a past week, a special occasion or an intriguing weekend spent with your host family and friends. Be as creative as you’d like! Your story could span the entire length of your trip, or it could focus on one particular component (learning a language/cultural behaviors/food) or timeframe (a trip to an unforgettable place).

Need a starting point? Check out our suggested guidelines.

Share your stories while showcasing your skills for a chance to win a prize in one of three categories!

Not sure where to start?  Start with MiddCreate

MiddCreate allows Middlebury students, faculty, and staff to create a personal web subdomain. In that web space, users can design and create spaces of almost unlimited possibilities, including installing various applications and content management systems, setting up subdomains, and installing databases. In addition, users may choose to “map” their domain (or a subdomain) to other services. You can read more about the possibilities of MiddCreate on our blog.

To explore examples of MiddCreate tools, check out this site created by Clarissa Stewart, DLC/MiddCreate intern, and this site created by Evelyn Helminen, Assistant Director of the DLC.

WHY YOU SHOULD ENTER

The Office of Digital Learning is very excited for you to start creating your own digital identity on the web. The Domain of One’s Own project, born out of the University of Mary Washington, is all about providing a platform for you to create something and anything that is all yours, on the web.

What better way to get started creating your online space than to document your journey abroad. For many, the study abroad experience is evolutionary in their personal and academic development. It goes beyond the ‘tourist experience’ and involves an understanding of the country, culture, norms and people. So why not reflect on your experience as you go for a chance to win the new
